If you never played Diablo games before, the news that you have to create a new character to play new seasonal content may sound baffling and disappointing to you. However, that's how developers designed the seasons in Diablo 3 and they are carrying it over to Diablo 4, it's been confirmed by Blizzard Entertainment.
Diablo 4 Executive Producer Rod Fergusson explained on Twitter that in order to participate in the new seasonal questline, mechanics and battle pass, players will have to create a brand new character, which will be able to progress the season journey and earn items from the battle pass.
Your old character will not be able to make any progress in the next season, which means you pretty much are waving goodbye to them. A tough one but it is what it is.
The good news is that once the season ends, your character will be moved to the "Eternal Realm" which is a non-season world where you can continue playing with your old character but obviously, you won't get any battle pass or season progress, which makes them pretty much useless.
The news about the seasonal reset has already come to a disappointing reaction from new Diablo players and casual gamers who jumped into Blizzard's hot new RPG.
For the hardcore Diablo players, this doesn't come as news as they are pretty familiar with how Diablo games worked in the past. According to them, the goal of Diablo is always to have fun grinding and preparing for the new seasonal mechanics with new characters.
It remains to be seen if Blizzard reconsider this approach to seasons in the near future to keep the new, more casual gamers, playing the game. However, we doubt that the devs will make any major changes to this system, as that's how it's been for decades in the Diablo franchise.
