This will be the verdict: history in the making, as one of gaming's oldest giants reaches an exceptional milestone - the sale of over 500 million units across all its franchise installments.
That would place Call of Duty as the second-best-selling video game franchise in the world, next to Nintendo's Mario, according to the Washington Post.
Remarkably, this stratospheric figure does not include the famous free-to-play titles, such as Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty Mobile, hence underlining success across paid games in the series.
The latest, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which launched last week immediately set records.
On Microsoft's latest quarterly earnings call, CEO Satya Nadella said Black Ops 6 has not only had the biggest debut in franchise history but also drove significant new Game Pass subscriptions on release day, sealing success on many levels for the game.
The game reportedly sold 60% over last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on sales across PlayStation and Steam stores alone - a crazy year-on-year growth for the franchise.
Nadella also highlighted that the record-breaking debut is a continuum of Microsoft's commitment to taking games to players across screens and platforms, giving fans more ways to engage with Call of Duty.
Meanwhile, new content is coming: expect new maps and modes to usher themselves in on November 1, with Season 01 of Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone later in the month.
Currently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
