Call of Duty: Warzone fans have a whole new experience to look forward to this year. This time, Activision is dipping back into Warzone‘s predecessor: Blackout. The free-to-play battle royale Black Ops Royale is coming to Warzone on March 12 at 9 PM PT (March 13 at 12 AM ET), according to the Call of Duty official blog.
Much like standard battle royale modes, Black Ops Royale takes away some quality-of-life systems present in modern Warzone. Say goodbye to Loadouts, Gulag respawns and Buy Stations.
Players will need to focus on looting and rotations as well as utilizing teamwork if they hope to be victorious. Below you can find all the details confirmed so far.
What Is Black Ops Royale?
Black Ops Royale is a Blackout-inspired twist on Warzone’s battle royale structure. Matches will feature:
- 100 players
- 25 quad squads
- No Loadouts
- No Gulag
- No Buy Stations
Players will glide in wingsuits onto the battlefield, loot for equipment, battle to survive against 25 other squads. Cradle Breaches also debut in the mode.
Warzone’s New Large Map is Avalon
Today, Warzone gets its newest large map called Avalon with the arrival of Black Ops Royale. Avalon joins the other popular Warzone maps such as Verdansk and Rebirth Island. This map has brighter colors and steps away from the dark cinematic filters used in previous season maps.
Let’s take a look at some notable details:
- Tightly packed urban areas with multi-story interior fights
- Wider travel corridors to enable faster rotations
- Longer sight lines for medium range fights
- Less water than previous large maps
- New sand pathways and bridges to aid traversal
- The circle is visible on spawn and starts moving at round start.
Eliminating loadouts and respawns promotes scavenging and improvisation. The gameplay loop is reminiscent of past battle royales, where you rely on finding good loot and laying in wait.
