If you've been playing Starfield over the last couple of days, you have probably noticed that this sci-fi RPG features the encumbrance mechanic, which is found in every other Bethesda game.
Starfield does make it a bit better, so instead of making you walk like a tortoise, the over-encumbered mechanic will fill your CO2 bar, making your vision blur and dizzy, which can be as annoying as the slow walking in Fallout or Skyrim.
You can tackle this issue in a couple of ways and we have made a guide to help you with that. So here are some of our advice on how to deal with always carrying too much in Starfield.
How to avoid being over-encumbered in Starfield?
Unlock Weight Lifting skill
The first tip we have is to sacrifice your first skill points on the Weight Lifting skill, which is found under the Physical tab. By spending just one skill point, you can increase your carrying capacity by 25 kilograms.
To unlock additional skill levels for Weight Lifting and increase your carrying capacity by 50 kilograms, you'll have to sprint a certain distance while at 75 per cent or higher of your carrying capacity. This shouldn't be a problem since you're packed with items all the time.
Use your ship's storage space
Your ship has a neat little storage space that you can use to store items and materials. The game does not tell you about it but you can find it right before you enter the cockpit. Make sure to leave your stuff in storage before exiting your ship so you can loot as many items as possible while exploring planets.
Later in the game, you will be able to upgrade your ship's storage space so you can store more unnecessary junk.
Give the items to your companions
Use your companions as storage space. We know that sounds cruel but they can carry a lot of stuff and we all know just how many items you can find in one dungeon. Your companions won't be able to carry too much, though, so make sure to take those items and sell/store them from time to time.
To trade items with your companions, simply open the dialogue with them and you'll see the option to trade stuff.
