WARDOGS Season 2 introduces four weapons, four vehicles, new weather effects and an experimental Wager Vendor, alongside combat changes and faction balance adjustments.

WARDOGS is ramping up for Season 2, with developers sharing another update video looking back on Season 1 and detailing several new additions in the next update.

The tactical multiplayer shooter has crossed three million sales, reportedly, and developers say they plan on continuing transparent communication with players as development continues via Early Access.

Season 2 will see new weapons, vehicles, buildables, and weather conditions hitting WARDOGS, among other changes designed to enhance combat, squad functionality, and progression. One fairly odd addition is an optional wagering system that lets you bet on completing objectives.

Season 2’s New Content and Changes

Full patch notes with complete balance changes are due out early next week, but here is what you can expect from Season 2.

Season 2 introduces four new weapons to rotate through: Each weapon fills a different role:

  • TCX Spear - Assault Rifle.
  • M14 - Designated Marksman Rifle.
  • PP-19 Bizon - Submachine Gun.
  • Evo-3 Ultra - Light Machine Gun.

These weapons will also introduce new attachments to provide additional customisation options. Season 2 will also introduce a new throwable incendiary device, the Molotov Cocktail. Players will be able to flip it overarm or underarm to damage enemies and deny access with fire.

Players can ride into battle with four new vehicles as well. These open up another layer of tactical depth for vehicle players and squads who want to spawn them. The developer’s description shows a focus on variety with the different vehicle types.

  • Wolf-110: Lightweight wheeled transport.
  • Wolf-110 (Assault): Wolf-110 equipped with ring-mounted M2 Browning.

Players will also gain access to three new buildables:

  • M2 Browning machine-gun nest
  • Large Metal Shelter.
  • Wooden Step.

Rain Alters Visibility and Battlefield Audio

Rain is more than just an aesthetic addition to WARDOGS’ battles. Rain will change visibility, range of engagements, audio, and interact with the environment.

Thunder will also become synced across the server to “temporarily mask footsteps.” In practice, this should reward attentive players who are able to use the noise to reposition or close with enemies undetected.

WARDOGS Season 2 Adds Betting System

WARDOGS’ big weird addition this season is the Wager Vendor, which players can use to wager in-game cash on their own ability to complete match objectives. Players can pick which objective they want to complete with a limited number of deaths, then select a stake amount. Example objectives include getting a certain number of kills in a hot zone or extracting a certain number of teammates.

Players can combine multiple tasks and pick the level of risk they want to take. The more you combine, the higher your potential reward, but you’ll have a more difficult time completing all of your tasks. A tracker will be visible above the mini-map detailing player’s stakes and progress towards task completion.

Note: This system is optional, and is still in the experimental phase. If players find ways to abuse it or it unbalances the game in any way, the devs say they may have to turn it off for the season.

Balance Changes Coming to Combat

Season 2 will offer several changes players have been looking forward to since launch. IR rangefinders will now take batteries, while Heavy and Super Heavy helmets will gain increased suppression resistance. Super Heavy helmets will come with drawbacks such as muffling player’s audio, decreasing field of view, and producing fog when sprinting.

Weapon damage will be adjusted across the board to create more distinct divides between weapon categories. This includes managing recoil and suppression effects. Developers are continuing to work on improving squad abilities, vehicles, controller input, leveling, rewards for team play, squad equipment logistics, game performance, and server infrastructure.

Balance is a large part of WARDOGS’ fight to ensure each faction is attractive to play as. One faction in particular, Lonestar has been underperforming compared to their competition.

Developers moved all faction spawns on Bakurani and will adjust how saturated Lonestar uniforms are to decrease contrast with the environment. Lonestar will also see increased cash and XP gains, with multipliers expected to incentivise more players to pick Lonestar.

If your team falls at least 40 points behind second place, your team will receive a 20% vendor global discount. The developers are taking this opportunity to see if financial incentives can swing the rates of team participation and victories in the long term.
