Despite some rumours suggesting a new Banjo Kazooie game is in development, reliable Xbox insider and WindowsCentral reporter Jez Corden claims that such a project does not exist at Microsoft at the moment.
In the latest episode of the XboxTwo podcast, Jez was pretty adamant that a new Banjo game is not in development at the moment. When Xbox community member Parris mentioned the game and whether it's being worked on, Jez replied: "It's not. I don't know if it never [happens] but I can categorically tell you that there is no Banjo game in development as of this podcast. There is no Banjo game in development right now"
Previously, we got rumours from trusted insider NateDrake and extas1s that some Banjo game was greenlit and in development at an unknown studio but whatever it was, it doesn't look like it exists anymore.
This would not come as a surprise since unannounced games get cancelled all the time. Microsoft's cancellation of Blizzard's upcoming survival game comes to mind as well as and The Last of Us multiplayer project.
There is still a chance that we get a new Banjo game someday as Microsoft are trying to keep this franchise in players' minds by selling merchandise and openly saying they hear Banjo players and their wishes but it certainly does not look like this one won't be coming anytime soon, if ever.
It's a big shame as Xbox could surely benefit from a great family-friendly platformer, which is a genre that is currently not a big focus for Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda and Activision.
We did get the announcement of the Toys For Bob and Xbox partnership recently, which could result in a new Spyro game, which could fill this gap but that's still years away.
