Playground Games' big open-world RPG Fable is now launching in 2026. Microsoft announced the delay today on the official Xbox Podcast.
Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan stated that the development of the game is progressing well and that he has full confidence in the developer Playground.
"Really excited about progress, really excited about where Playground are...we are actually going to give Fable a bit more time and it's going to ship in 2026 now," Duncan said.
Xbox also shared new screenshots and footage of the game and you can check that out below.
While this will obviously come as a disappointment to many Xbox fans, the amount of games coming out from the Xbox's kitchen in 2025 is truly enormous so this delay won't hurt that much.
And obviously, the devs should take as much time as possible to get this one right. It's Fable, after all, a new beginning for such an iconic franchise and every honest fan should be fine to wait for another year.
Interestingly, the new release date is very broad, which suggests Microsoft might not be sure when the game could be ready in 2026. I'd bet we see it in Holiday season of next year.
