Although AMD FSR 3.1 (or AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1) was announced back in March, we still had to wait a bit for the arrival of the latest version of this cumbersome frame generation/upscaling technology.
Fortunately, the wait is over because not only is AMD FSR 3.1 finally here, but Nixxes Software, a developer specialized in porting PlayStation titles to PC, has decided to implement it in a total of six video games.
Specifically, in Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and sometimes later (September 19, 2024) God of War Ragnarok .
As a reminder, AMD FSR 3.1 enables performance increase through frame generation (that is, generation of additional FPS). In addition, FSR 3.1 compared to FSR 3 also offers improved temporal stability (reduction of jitter), improved ghosting reduction and better detail preservation.
AMD FSR 3.1 will include something called temporal stability. The stability minimizes shimmering and flickering and improves ghosting reduction. Because of these improvements, players can run the game at a lower resolution. However, players can still stretch the image out to ensure it fits the screen’s size, similar what Nvidia’s DLSS 2 does.
In the end, AMD acknowledged its commitment to developer support, which is available for Xbox Game Development Kit (GDK) and Vulkan. The software firm also revealed the upgradable FSR API, enabling developers to easily access all future FSR versions.
