Earlier this week, Bioware sent Mass Effect fans into a frenzy with a short and mysterious teaser trailer for the next Mass Effect game which is currently in development. Expectedly, fans are now eager to find out more about the project and there are some rumblings that The Game Awards 2023 could be the place where the publisher EA decide to show us more.
However, even though Bioware are now teasing the game and have already confirmed in a blog post that a new Mass Effect is coming, reliable industry insider Jeff Grubb reveals today that this game is "nowhere near coming out".
In his Game Mess Mornings podcast, (28:30) Grubb explained that Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will have similar development cycle, meaning that it will take around six years for Mass Effect to be finished. "Dragon Age: Dreadwolf was announced in 2018, and we're not getting that game until next year. Now do the math for that and we're talking 2029 for Mass Effect 5," Grubb said.
Grubb added that one of the reasons why Bioware decided to tease Mass Effect at this point is because they had to do something for the N7 day, which celebrates the Mass Effect franchise.
Obviously, this will come as a major shock to all Mass Effect fans who probably expected the game sometime over the next couple of years. Unfortunately for them, it appears that the wait will be much longer.
It's worth mentioning that there is no official word on the release date for the next Mass Effect so take everything above as a rumour. That being said, Jeff Grubb is one of the most reliable reporters in the gaming industry and he probably wouldn't talk about the subject with such confidence if he wasn't certain in the information that was provided to him.
