EA and DICE launch Mass Effect crossover event in Battlefield 2024, bringing a variety of Mass Effect-inspired cosmetics to their multiplayer shooter.

Battlefield 2042’s latest update, version 8.9.0, is now live, bringing a wave of gameplay improvements, weapon adjustments, and a limited-time crossover event with another EA franchise, Mass Effect. The update, released the week of June 17, introduces balance tweaks, new content for Portal mode, and themed cosmetics inspired by BioWare’s sci-fi universe.

Mass Effect Crossover Event Runs Until July 1

From June 17 to July 1, 2025, players can take part in a special Mass Effect crossover event. During this time, players will be able to get their hands on themed bundles and progression-based rewards, offering a variety of cosmetics inspired by the franchise.

Three premium bundles are available for purchase with Battlefield Coins (BFC):

  • Galactic Bundle – 1750 BFC A space-themed loadout designed to embody the spirit of galactic warfare.
  • Scoped & Dropped Bundle – 2000 BFC Focused on precision and utility, ideal for sharpshooters and scouts alike.
  • Citadel Bundle – 3000 BFC Includes all cosmetics from the Mass Effect event in one package.

Players can also unlock Mass Effect-inspired cosmetics through in-game progression, including a legendary weapon skin modelled after the iconic M8 Avenger assault rifle.

New Limited-Time Mode: Conquest Ascension

Also featured in this update is Conquest Ascension, a special game mode that adds new mechanics such as crawling and squad spectating. This mode encourages strategic play and coordination, reflecting a more advanced vision of future combat scenarios.

Weapon Balancing and Underloaded Magazines

Update 8.9.0 introduces a variety of weapon changes, including adjustments to recoil and accuracy across several classes. A new Underloaded Magazine attachment is now available, offering faster handling at the cost of reduced ammo capacity. This creates a trade-off between speed and sustained firepower, giving players more tactical flexibility depending on their playstyle.

Portal Mode Expands with New Modes and Maps

Several new game modes have been added to Battlefield Portal, including:

  • Control
  • Shutdown
  • Strike Team
  • Killswitch

Additionally, the Stadium map has been added to the Custom Conquest rotation, giving creators more tools to design custom game experiences.
