BioWare has announced that Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the fourth installment in its fantasy RPG franchise, will not receive post-launch expansions-a break from the studio's tradition of releasing extended content for its Dragon Age titles.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, creative director Jon Epler said BioWare's attention is now all on the next Mass Effect game, which is now in pre-production.

Although most specifics remain unavailable, it is still a move that represents a big change in strategy while BioWare tries to shift all resources to work on the science fiction RPG.

Although some patches and minor bug fixes can still be expected for The Veilguard, it's made clear that no major updates or added content will be planned.

It has, however started well: topping Steam sales charts, receiving positive reviews from players, and becoming the best-performing single-player game on the platform for EA.

Announced at the end of 2020, the new Mass Effect game has unveiled very few details about its development itself, and the team has released only a couple of teasers and concept images.

Project Director Michael Gamble also said the new Mass Effect will return to the mature themes and realistic style of the original trilogy, while abandoning the open-world design of Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The game will be made using Unreal Engine 5-a first for BioWare after making use of the Frostbite engine in most of its recent titles.

Although the studio's focus is already on this next Mass Effect game, it will still be some time, with rough estimates of the release date falling to 2028 or even 2029.
