South of Midnight, the action-adventure game with critical acclaim, is coming to PlayStation 5 later this month. It launched on Xbox Series X/S, and PC last year and will launch on Sony’s console March 31.
Created by Compulsion Games, South of Midnight combines elements of action-adventure with fantastical Southern Gothic twists on folklore from across the American Deep South.
South of Midnight Arrives on PS5 This Month
Along with the PlayStation confirmation, the publisher also released another critical acclaim trailer showing off user reviews of the game since launch. Players who grab South of Midnight for PS5 this month will get to take control of Hazel as she uncovers what happened to her mother and delves into the strange world of magic that she’s becoming a part of.
The release of a Nintendo Switch 2 version was previously teased as well, but Compulsion Games has not yet stated whether that version will launch day and date with PS5 or at a later date.
A Southern Gothic Fantasy Adventure
Players take on the role of Hazel once a flash flood ravages her hometown, leaving her homeless and separated from her mother. In search of her mom, Hazel quickly learns about the supernatural Strands and her heritage as a Weaver with power over the strange phenomenon.
South of Midnight sends players across an otherworldly version of the American Deep South where Hazel will square off against grotesque monsters called Haints. With magic at her disposal and supernatural weapons to wield, players dive headfirst into Hazel’s world and try to figure out what happened to her family.
Possibly the most interesting aspect of South of Midnight is the visual art style. Cutscenes are stop-motion inspired, leaving players with a 2D animated feel that most games in the genre don’t have anymore.Mix that in with an engrossing soundtrack and beautiful world building and players are treated to a truly cinematic experience.
