The "Just Defense" mechanic includes an expanded "Hyper Defense" variation to protect against multi-hit attacks. Players unlock "Gear" super attacks through the activation of two meter bars displayed at the screen's bottom.
The Ignition Gear attack requires one meter but the Redline Gear attack needs both meters for enhanced power. The Hidden Gear represents the ultimate super move which demands the use of both bars during the S.P.G's active state.
In addition to the standard arcade mode, the game features a single player mode called "Episodes of South Town".
