Xbox is set to have a stellar year with releases like Avowed, Hellblade 2, Flight Simulator 2024 and more confirmed to be coming in 2024. However, Xbox bosses were always adamant that they have more unannounced scheduled for next year and one of these mysterious titles could be Compulsion Games' third-person action-adventure South of Midnight.
South of Midnight was officially announced at The Xbox Games Showcase earlier this year without a specific release date, which suggested the project could still be far away but according to the LinkedIn profile of Microsoft's Senior PR Manager Brad Hilderbrand (via X), South of Midnight could be another big Xbox exclusive in 2024.
Under the Experience tab on LinkedIn, Hilderbrand included games that he worked on such as Halo Infinite, Forza Motorsport, Towerborne and South of Midnight. As you can see in the screengrab below, South of Midnight is scheduled as the 2024 title along with Towerborne.
Obviously, you need to take this with a grain of salt since this is far from an official confirmation. Yes, it comes from the Microsoft employee who should have access to this information but certainly don't get excited until Compulsion Games officially announces the date.
If we had to guess, we'd say that South of Midnight could indeed launch in 2024 as the studio's last game We Happy Few released way back in 2018 and six years is pretty much the standard development cycle in the games industry for brand-new AAA projects, and that's exactly what South of Midnight is.
If South of Midnight is indeed another major Xbox Game Studios title for 2024, it's safe to say that Xbox could have one of the strongest years ever with back-to-back releases in Towerborne, Hellblade 2, Avowed, South of Midnight and even more.
In case you are not familiar with South of Midnight, it's described as "a spellbinding third-person action-adventure game set in the American Deep South". Players take control of Hazel, a young black female who becomes a Weaver, gaining the ability to mend the magic of broken bonds and spirits. Hazel then takes on dangerous creatures, inspired by Southern folklore, in this fantastical world.
