Ukrainian developer GSC Game World has announced a release date for Cost of Hope, the first major expansion for Stalker 2. It's officially hitting the shelves on August 20 for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation.
In case you're unfamiliar with the premise of this highly anticipated DLC, Cost of Hope puts players back in the boots of Skif, the protagonist of Heart of Chornobyl, this time following a mysterious PDA signal that pulls him into events running alongside the main game's story. GSC Game World promise new uncharted locations, allies and enemies, and new weapons across what they are calling dozens of hours of content, with player choices shaping how things play out.
The expansion also leans into a bigger shift for the Zone itself. The long-running standoff between Duty and Freedom, two of the game's biggest factions, is reportedly reaching a breaking point, with their fragile peace starting to fall apart.
Free Update 2.0 lands the same day
Even more exciting is the news that Cost of Hope isn't launching alone. GSC is releasing a massive Update 2.0 for Heart of Chornobyl on the same date, which will be free for all existing owners.
It includes a move to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5, which should result in sharper visuals and better performance, along with a range of unspecified new content and improvements. GSC says more details on both the expansion and the update are coming in the weeks ahead.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope launches August 20, 2026 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Update 2.0 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl arrives free the same day for all owners.
