The first DLC expansion for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was officially announced today. Cost of Hope, coming this summer from GSC Game World, is framing itself as an extension of Chornobyl Heart’s campaign, rather than a small DLC pack.
It’s coming players won’t be able to blow through quickly either, boasting a storyline that will take players dozens of hours to complete.
A New Story Running Parallel to the Main Game
Skif will be at the center of Cost of Hope as well, beginning partway through the main storyline when he receives a call that drags him into the events of the expansion.
The content does not take place after the conclusion of Heart of Chornobyl however. Instead, the events of Cost of Hope are happening alongside the main narrative. This opens up some intriguing questions about lore in the Zone while not really affecting the story of the base game itself.
New Regions to Explore
New areas include:
- Iron Forest
- Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant
Within each forest are hubs and dozens of additional locations and activities. Both serve to further flesh out exploration in Heart of Chornobyl, providing new secrets and destinations to discover throughout the Zone.
Factions and Player Choice
As usual, Duty and Freedom are back at it, continuing their age old conflict throughout Cost of Hope. There’s even a name for their temporary peace treaty: the D4 Treaty.
While they are supposedly united under the D4 Treaty, early details suggest that this fragile agreement may be falling apart. Player decisions throughout the expansion will influence how events unfold, including the ending and broader consequences for the Zone.
