A Call Of Duty feature film is officially in development. Amazon MGM Studios and Activision confirmed the project over the weekend, with the movie set to be produced by Activision Blizzard and distributed theatrically by Amazon MGM. The film will be set in the Modern Warfare universe, placing it within the continuity of the rebooted Modern Warfare trilogy rather than the franchise's other sub-series, such as Black Ops or Advanced Warfare.
No casting, director, or anything more specific has been announced. What has been confirmed is that the film will be produced by Nick van Dyk and Stacey Sher through their production banner, alongside Activision's film and television arm. Call of Duty movie is on hold, but apparently not cancelled yet, but this marks the first official public confirmation that it is actively moving forward and has a studio home. Amazon MGM is an interesting fit given its existing investment in gaming adaptations through its Prime Video slate, which currently includes the God of War series and the recently greenlit Halo: Campaign Evolved television adaptation.
Call of Duty is one of the highest-grossing entertainment franchises in history, having sold more than 400 million copies across all entries since the series launched in 2003. The Call of Duty this year to be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which Call of Duty: Modern Warfare revealed, coming in October 2019 and ran through Modern Warfare II and III, leaned heavily into cinematic presentation and a grounded tone that lends itself more naturally to a film adaptation than some of the franchise's more heightened sci-fi entries. Modern Warfare 4 is currently in development at Infinity Ward, with a release expected in late 2026, meaning the film announcement arrives alongside renewed mainstream attention on that corner of the franchise.
