Developer GSC Game World has officially confirmed that Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will arrive on PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro in late 2025. The announcement comes nearly a year after the game’s initial release on PC and Xbox Series X|S in November 2024, where it was met with critical acclaim for its atmospheric world, tense survival mechanics, and hauntingly beautiful rendition of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. AltChar gave Stalker 2 a 78 out of 100 praising incredible atmosphere that is held back by serious technical issues.
Fully utilizing PS5 tech
GSC Game World says the PlayStation 5 version will "fully utilize DualSense controller features, including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers," aiming to deliver a deeper sense of immersion. Players can expect to feel every trigger pull, environmental vibration, and other tactile effects as they navigate the unforgiving wilderness.
Additionally, the team confirmed that technical enhancements for the PS5 Pro are in development, though specific improvements haven’t yet been detailed. This suggests higher resolution options, smoother frame rates, or even ray tracing enhancements could be on the table for those playing on Sony’s more powerful console.
Why PlayStation fans had to wait
The delayed PlayStation launch was expected when Microsoft announced the game on their show several years ago. Stalker 2 was initially released as a timed console exclusive for Xbox Series X|S, part of a deal that secured early access for Microsoft platforms. This arrangement meant PlayStation users had to wait nearly a year before being able to explore the dangerous anomalies and factions of the Zone.

Upon its original release, Stalker 2 was praised for its rich open world, compelling survival elements, and deep narrative branching. The move to PlayStation now opens the game to a broader audience, allowing even more players to experience one of the most atmospheric shooters in recent memory.
GSC Game World has not yet announced an exact release date for the PS5 and PS5 Pro versions, but fans can expect more details in the coming months as the late 2025 launch window approaches.
