There are too many games to play for us busy people, but games like Control Resonant will almost certainly be near the top of my most anticipated games list.

Remedy Entertainment has put out a new development video for Control Resonant, and it's done a properly good job of selling the sequel to me for the fifth time. In this one, the team talks through how they're using Dylan Faden as a lens to expand the Control universe rather than simply repeating what Jesse's story already did, but it's what the footage shows that's got me completely hooked.

The first thing you'll notice is the art style. Remedy's visual identity has always been one of its biggest strengths, and Control Resonant looks like it's taking that and cranking it further. It still feels like Control, but everything's got a dirtier, more chaotic edge to it this time round, which suits Dylan's more impulsive, "wears his heart on his sleeve" characterisation that the developers describe in the video.

There's this one sequence that stood out in particular - a level built around two different perspectives, where Dylan starts in a room that appears to be upside down, jumps across, and the whole perspective flips with him. It's a short moment in the video, but it's the kind of spatial trickery that suggests Remedy's still willing to mess with the player in interesting ways, building on the reality-bending stuff Control was already known for. Isn't that music to every Control fan's ears?

The video also shows a decent spread of enemy types, from bosses and hulking worm creatures to zombie-like enemies and assorted other-dimensional horrors. That's always a good sign for combat variety, and I hope it translates well to the full game.

The switch to melee combat is probably the biggest gameplay change on show, and it's also the one that makes me cautiously excited. Remedy really can't afford to get it wrong. What's in the video looks decent enough, but the footage isn't running at a great frame-rate, so it's genuinely hard to judge how smooth or weighty it'll actually feel in hand. That's the one thing keeping my excitement in check for now but knowing Remedy, I bet they'll knock it out of the park.
