Marvel's Wolverine had its San Diego Comic-Con panel today, and Insomniac Games used it to deliver substantially more story detail than anything shown before. A new trailer (separate from the "Ain't No Hero" cinematic released last week) gave the clearest picture yet of the game's central conflict, cast, and setting, and the panel expanded on several threads that the trailers had previously kept vague.
The biggest character confirmations from today are Bolivar Trask and The Hand. Trask, the Marvel Comics inventor of the Sentinel programme, has been confirmed as one of the antagonist forces in the game, placing mutant extermination technology at the heart of the story. The Hand, the ninja organisation familiar from both the comics and the broader Marvel universe, has also been officially confirmed as an opposing faction. Together with Lady Deathstrike, who was revealed last week, the game is shaping up to have a layered villain roster rather than a single antagonist. The panel also confirmed that Logan's Team X history, alongside Sabretooth and Mystique under Nathaniel Essex, is central to the story, with the trio having worked together before the events of the game and their reunion driving much of the plot.
Beyond the trailer, Insomniac announced a prequel comic for Marvel's Wolverine, released today ahead of the September 15 launch. The comic is intended to fill in the story gap between Logan's past with Team X and where the game picks up, giving us context for the relationships and grudges already in motion when the game begins.
Composer Bear McCreary was also on the panel to discuss the game's soundtrack, which he described as drawing heavily on the specific characters: distorted rock for Sabretooth, harp and guitar for Jean Grey. The full soundtrack releases on 28 August, two and a half weeks before the game itself. Marvel's Wolverine launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 on 15 September 2026.
