Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that the company does not have any imminent plans for an announcement of the rumoured Switch Pro console.
The rumours about Nintendo's next console, which is apparently Switch Pro, are floating around the internet for months now but the Japanese tech giant are yet to officially confirm that such a console exists. As fans await for the announcement and as the rumours become louder and louder with each passing month, Nintendo seem pretty relaxed with the situation and probably won't talk about Switch Pro anytime soon.
According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, the announcement won't be coming anytime soon. Bloomberg's Takashi Mochizuki tried to get some information on the console, asking when can we expect to hear more or get the full announcement, but Furukawa was quite firm in his reply, which was quite simple but soul-crushing to many Nintendo fans: "Not anytime soon," he said.
And while Nintendo fans are disappointed to hear such an answer, we have to say that Furukawa's response is not surprising at all. The current Switch console is still selling like hotcakes, reaching 80 million sold units recently and exceeding the sales of Nintendo's mega-popular 3Ds.
Why would Nintendo release a brand new console when their current one is still doing so well on the market?
The company can also be proud with the sales of their recent games such as Animal Crossing, which reached over 30 million units sold. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is another heavy-hitter game for Nintendo that reached 30 million sales.
All in all, for the time being, Nintendo can stay put and watch as their Switch console still smashes sales. When the time is right and the sales dry up, then we will probably hear more about the successor of this iconic console.
