Toby Fox quietly delivered the fifth chapter of his long-running RPG yesterday, and it arrived with a lighter tone, a festival, and a note that the story is about to take a darker turn.

Deltarune Chapter 5, subtitled Festival Day, launched yesterday, 24 June 2026, as a free update to the paid version of Deltarune on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, and Switch 2. Toby Fox confirmed the release at 11:00 AM EDT, and anyone who already owns the game received it automatically through a standard platform update with no additional purchase required.

The chapter picks up directly from where Chapter 4 left off, with Kris, Susie, and Ralsei visiting the festival that earlier chapters had been building towards. The setting is lighter in tone than Chapter 4's darker threads, and Fox was deliberate about that framing in his release newsletter, describing it as one more fun adventure before the sun "goes down completely".

Castle Town returns as an accessible hub, and the Weird Route continues from its previous thread for players following that path. The chapter centres on a new Dark World created inside Flower King, Asgore's flower shop, with a new antagonist named Flowery serving as the central conflict. The chapter's bonus boss is Pink, completing the set of Shadow Crystal bosses that have run across the game's chapters.

The development pace is also accelerating. In the same newsletter, Fox noted that Chapter 6 is easier to build than previous chapters, development is moving quickly, and some team members may begin work on Chapter 7 before the end of 2026. That suggests the remaining two chapters of the planned seven-part arc could arrive considerably faster than the multi-year gaps fans have grown used to waiting through. Chapter 5 is available now as a free update for all owners of the paid version of Deltarune on all supported platforms.
