Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are officially returning on 27 February 2026. The reveal was officially made today, putting weeks of rumours to rest a feq days before this year’s Pokémon Day festivities.
Luckily for eager trainers, there’s no need to wait until Pokémon Day to circle on your calendars. Released back in 2004, both games will be available to download on the Nintendo eShop.
Standalone eShop Releases
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen will not be available as part of Nintendo Switch Online, but rather as standalone releases on the eShop.
Each version will set you back €19.99, and will come with no additional bonuses:
- No graphical enhancements
- No gameplay tweaks
- No modern-day additions
- Pureports of the original GBA titles
Language Versions / Regions
The games will be available for purchase as separate language versions, similar to how they were originally sold. In North and South America, the options are as follows:
- English
- European French
- European Spanish
You have to ensure that you selected the correct language option before buying. Nintendo will provide assistance if you accidentally download the wrong version.
Switch Compatibility and Switch 2 Support
Each game will be playable on the original Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.Performance will be similar between the two consoles. However, when playing on Switch 2, you will be able to activate GameChat.
Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will release digitally on February 27th after Pokémon Presents.
