Ubisoft just confirmed that the much-requested Far Cry 3 60 FPS patch will arrive later this month. At the tail end of last week, Ubisoft dropped a quick teaser of what’s to come. Today, they’ve set the official release date as January 21, 2026 for the free-of-charge patch for current-gen consoles.
Ubisoft clearly wants to give fans of the game the experience it deserves on modern hardware. No technical specifications have been confirmed, but we’ll definitely have plenty to say about it when more details arrive. Though it was short, fans of Far Cry reacted positively to the trailer.
Details on Far Cry 3’s 60 FPS Patch
The upcoming 60 FPS patch will be available as a free download for Far Cry 3 Classic Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The supported platforms weren’t listed in the trailer, but Ubisoft confirmed to Digital Review that current-gen consoles are the target for this patch.Nothing has been said about potential graphical upgrades.
While we don’t doubt they could improve some aspects of the game, we aren’t aware of any native upscales or better textures on these platforms. As such, this is likely a straight performance patch.
Far Cry 3 launched at a locked framerate on consoles. It didn’t take long for players to start asking for better. With hardware releasing with higher framerates each generation, it became even more noticeable over time.
Will there be a Nintendo Switch port anytime soon?
Players on PC will not receive this patch as Far Cry 3 has always been unlocked natively. Far Cry 3 Classic Edition has never released on Nintendo Switch, and Ubisoft has not mentioned any desire to port the game there.
Players will not need to pay anything to download this patch. It is completely free as long as you own a copy of Far Cry 3 Classic Edition. The patch should automatically download on January 21 when it releases.
