Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is just around the corner and today, Ubisoft and Sony released a new blog post, detailing the game's exclusive PlayStation 5 features that will be available at launch. As expected, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will have DualSense implementation as well as use the console's 3D Audio and some other features.
The developer Massive reveal that their title will feature over 400 unique haptic effects including footsteps of heavy animals nearby, plants folding, environmental effects like waterfalls, heavy wind and much more. You'll also be able to feel the feedback from wildlife, their breath and purr as you pet them.
What comes as a big surprise is the announcement of ray-traced global illumination and reflections on PlayStation 5. These are very GPU-intensive features that can make a world of difference in terms of visuals and it's certainly impressive that Massive Entertainment managed to implement both to the console version of the game.
The team also explained how they used 3D audio to create an immersive surround sound. Massive say that almost every sound in the environment is 3D positioned "so when players move around, the sounds maintain their relative positions, like they would in the real world."
Obviously, some of these features will also be available on other platforms like PC and Xbox Series X|S, more specifically ray-tracing and 3D audio. As for haptics, don't expect these on Xbox as the controller does not support such features.
All in all, we have to say that at least on paper, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has everything that we expect from a modern AAA release in terms of graphical features. Hopefully, we also get satisfying performance across all platforms.
