Playing Grace and Leon in Resident Evil Requiem will feel like experiencing two completely different games within one unified story, Capcom claimed in the recently aired showcase, explaining how the post-Resident Evil 6 adventure balances tension and release through contrasting gameplay styles.
Grace's sections emphasise horror in tight spaces with scarce ammunition and terrifying enemies, drawing inspiration from Resident Evil 2 and 7. Players can sneak past threats, engage enemies directly, or flee depending on resources. Her signature Requiem Gun - a large-caliber assault revolver - delivers deadly damage but carries limited ammunition, forcing careful shot placement.
Leon's gameplay evolves Resident Evil 4's formula with refined gunplay and new mechanics. Still working with the DSO but "pushed to his limits" after RE6, Leon uses a hatchet to parry attacks and can target specific enemy body parts strategically. He can also commandeer weapons from enemies during combat.
Capcom originally attempted a Leon-focused horror game but abandoned the concept, believing players wouldn't accept a "timid Leon." The dual-character structure solved this issue whilst delivering variety.
The crafting returns and will mirror Resident Evil 2, letting players collect infected blood to create specialised injectors. Camera perspective can be toggled between first and third-person for each character separately. Multiple difficulty levels are available, with Classic mode requiring ink ribbons for saving as Grace.
The Deluxe Edition includes five bonus costumes for both protagonists, weapon skins, and screen filters. There's even a Lady Dimitrescu costume for Grace. Wink, wink.
Resident Evil Requiem launches February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
