Gran Turismo 8 appears to be in early development, with Polyphony Digital hiring for roles focused on improving the series’ vehicle simulation technology.

Gran Turismo 7 launched back in March 2022 but has since gone on to receive a significant amount of post-launch support from Polyphony Digital. The studio has continually worked on expanding the racing simulator, and it looks to be doing so for a while yet; Spec IV will drop later this year in October and will bring with it a handful of large additions.

That said, Polyphony Digital may already be looking ahead to Gran Turismo 8. Job listings that have recently appeared on the developer’s official site indicates work could be beginning on the next installment in the series.

Sony and Polyphony haven’t formally confirmed Gran Turismo 8, but that may change sooner rather than later.

One listing in particular is for Gran Turismo series vehicle simulation programmer. The responsibility of the job includes improving the vehicle simulation engine which the Gran Turismo series uses, as well as recreating mechanisms unique to individual vehicles.

Granted, the listing makes no direct mention of Gran Turismo 8, but work of this nature would certainly line up with working on a new entry in the series. More than likely, Polyphony Digital is looking to start or grow the team that will one day work on Gran Turismo 8.

Sony’s next-generation console will eventually release at some point as well. With that in mind, and longdev cycles Gran Turismo is known for, it wouldn’t be surprising if Gran Turismo 8 launches on PS6 rather than the PlayStation 5.

More than likely Gran Turismo 7 will remain Polyphony Digital’s focus for the time being. Spec IV is on the horizon alongside further post-launch support. At this point, these new job listings merely signal that Polyphony is looking toward the future.
