During the Ubisoft Showcase that took place tonight, one of the stars of the evening was, without doubt, the next Assassin's Creed game, Assassin's Creed: Shadows. It is already well known that Assassin's Creed: Shadows is coming on November 15, 2024, but up until now, we haven't seen the actual gameplay footage. Of coarse, that changed tonight.
The 13-minute trailer showed us nothing but the real gameplay, though with the warning that the game is still a work in progress. Judging by all we've seen, the next Assassin's Creed game might be very interesting in more aspects than one.
The trailer showed the two playstyles: the brute strength showcased by samurai Yasuke and the sophisticated, stealthy combat preferred by Naoe Shinobi, the other Shadows protagonist. Yasuke's combat style is quite different from the other AC protagonists. He is visibly bigger than all other NPCs, and he uses that strength by wielding a huge mace, a weapon not customary for samurai. Although, during a boss fight, he switches weapons to katana, showcasing one more gameplay element—the different playstyles of one protagonist.
Naoe's gameplay is more reminiscent of older Assassin's Creed titles and it seems Ubisoft decided to satisfy the needs of all in this game: the ones that prefer more advanced RPG approach of later AC titles and more traditional gameplay of the older ones. According to all shown, Assassin's Creed: Shadow could be a mixed bag of all previous AC styles and gameplays.
Regarding the presentation, it is more than evident that Assassin's Creed: Shadows will be a visual and presentational treat in every possible way. But let's be honest, which Assassin's Creed title is not? Feudal Japan is a place of many beauties, and they are showcased in this trailer in the best possible light.
As mentioned earlier, Assassin's Creed: Shadows will hit stores in November, and once it comes out, it will be available on PC through Ubisoft Connect and Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The owners of Ubisoft+ subscriptions will have early access to the game, as will everyone who owns Gold and Premium editions of the game.
