Starting this year, Football Manager will become the official manager game of the English Premier League with all licensed clubs. The partnership aims to enhance authenticity and tap into the off-pitch activities of the Premier League and its clubs.
Gone are the days when players had to use mods for Football Manager in order to have real club names, real crests, jerseys and logos in the top tier of English football.
Sports Interactive announced today that they have agreed a partnership with the Premier League that will be fully licensed in the next four Football Manager games.
“The partnership is not just about enhancing authenticity, it gives us the opportunity to tap into the incredible things the Premier League and its clubs are doing off the pitch. We are very grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to be an officially licensed product of the most commercially successful football league in the world." – said the head of Sports Interactive, Miles Jacobson.
The news of the Premier League's licensing of Football Manager games comes at a time when the league itself is going through a challenging period. Last year's champion Manchester City recently decided to sue the league management for what they say is discrimination and tyranny of the majority through rules that limit sponsorship deals with companies directly or indirectly linked to the owners of the clubs in which they invest.
On the other hand, the Premier League filed a lawsuit against the same club last year for an alleged violation of financial fair play, which could end in its expulsion from the league after four consecutive league titles.
