Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced includes new story content beyond graphical upgrades, featuring a "Blackbeard's Treasure" questline with new missions and locations

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced teases a new Blackbeard treasure quest, adding fresh story content to the upcoming remake.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced keeps growing past simply being a graphical upgrade, with new story elements teased via the newest cinematic trailer from Ubisoft.

Easily the most exciting tease for new content is a questline surrounding infamous pirate Blackbeard. Included in the new trailer is a treasure hunt, named “Blackbeard’s Treasure.”

References to returning characters as well as stirring new emotion leads me to believe the remake will be getting more content than simply allowing us to replay the story again with improved visuals.

As is tradition with Ubisoft’s cinematic trailers, we see classic characters Edward Kenway and Anne Bonny gaze out onto the horizon in somber reflection. That is until Blackbeard pulls up behind them with what looks to be a treasure map.

Blackbeard inquires if Edward is still after “fairy stories,” to which Kenway simply replies “Nevermore.” Such a small interaction, but we really see that Ubisoft is giving attention to this remake’s story.

A separate questline from other announced gameplay elements such as the Jackdaw officer system, this treasure map Blackbeard hands Kenway is sure to lead to brand new missions and locales.

The location of the treasure is unclear from what’s shown in the trailer, but judging by tone we can at least expect some callbacks to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag’s best storytelling aspects.

Remaster or not, Black Flag Resynced is already showing promise to deliver quality of life improvements past what players knew from the original release. Improved combat, more vertical parkour traversal, and new questlines are only scratching the surface of what’s to come.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced releases July 9 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. More gameplay details should be arriving in the weeks leading up to launch.
