Contrary to popular rumours, GTA 6 isn't banned in most regions of the world. Some people believe this due to revealing where players could pre-order the game.
Multiple countries were noticeably absent from a PlayStation promotion running alongside GTA 6 pre-orders, but that only affected who received the free GTA+ subscription bonus, not access to the game itself.
Just about every country in the world can pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6. One notable change is that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates added pre-orders for the game after lifting their bans on the series in 2025. Both countries updated their age-rating systems to allow games like Grand Theft Auto 6 to be approved.
Other Middle Eastern countries have a murky status. Bahrain and Qatar don't appear to have an official government ban against Grand Theft Auto 6, but they were excluded from the GTA+ promotion. Kuwait and Oman don't currently have Grand Theft Auto 6 on sale in their respective PlayStation Stores, but they haven't announced any bans either.
Russia also doesn't have access to Grand Theft Auto 6, but you can blame Sony, Microsoft, and Valve for that. PlayStation removed its storefront from Russia in response to international sanctions against the country. Xbox and Steam followed suit, so there's no official means to purchase GTA 6 in Russia.
China will also almost certainly never have access to Grand Theft Auto 6. The country famously strict video game approval process makes it near-impossible for mature games like Rockstar's open-world crime staples to be released there. As far as government censorship goes, Australia is where GTA 6 was banned the most ahead of its release.
Those rumors were always false. Australia does have strict age-verification laws when it comes to online games, so certain multiplayer functionality in Grand Theft Auto 6 might be restricted or unavailable down the line. However, there's no evidence Australian players won't be able to buy and play Grand Theft Auto 6.
