Grand Theft Auto 6 won’t have a disc when it launches on 19 November 2026, but rumours claim there’s a physical release on the way shortly after launch.
Polish gaming news site PPE. pl has reported that Rockstar Games and parent company Take- Two Interactive have plans to release a disc-based version of GTA 6 on December 2026.
This would come just a few weeks after Grand Theft Auto 6 releases digitally on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Rockstar Games has previously stated that physical copies bought from retailers at launch will only include a code to download and install the game, with no physical disc included.
Many collectors and veteran Rockstar fans were upset by the lack of physical media at launch, especially since both Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched with discs included as part of the package. Grand Theft Auto V physical copies were loved by collectors for including a map and vinyl case.
Should this latest rumour be true, players will have a traditional retail release to look forward to just a few weeks after launch. However, Take-Two Interactive has not confirmed these plans. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick even shut down claims that GTA 6’s physical release was delayed to avoid any chance of leaks. “I will say this about that. I don’t think withholding a physical version is our plan,” Zelnick said during an earnings call earlier this year.
Pre-orders for GTA 6 are now open on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game’s Standard Edition will set you back $80, while the Ultimate Edition will cost $100. While this may seem like a sizable jump, the Ultimate Edition includes additional in-game content and bonuses.
The wording around GTA 6’s Ultimate Edition has caused more speculation about the game’s storyline. Some are reading between the lines and assuming that GTA 6’s campaign will be split up into chapters like Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar hasn’t commented on any of these theories.
