Game Science has released a 15-minute gameplay tailer for their upcoming game Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the follow-up to Black Myth: Wukong. The trailer gives us a first proper look at the game in action, showing the new protagonist in combat as well as giving us a glimpse into the story.
All footage has been capture in-game, and is coming from a work-in-progress build running at a 21:9 aspect ratio. Game Science notes that it's all in early development still, so the final product may differ from what we're seeing here.
New myth, new protagonist
While in the previous game we've had Wukong journeying to the West, the follow up shifts the story to a different figure from Chinese mythology. Zhong Kui is traditionally depicted as a vanquisher of demons and ghosts, which gives Game Science a darker and more supernatural direction to work with compared to the first game's monkey king fantasy.
The trailer - while still a work-in-progress - showcases stunning visuals and smooth combat which we've already witnessed from the first game, but also environments that look tonally heavier than Wukong's.
There is still no release date or platform confirmation announced, but given Wukong's success across PC and PlayStation 5, expect a similar rollout when the time comes.
