Strauss Zelnick has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders will not be going live via Best Buy this week. The Take-2 CEO was recently interviewed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, shutting down the rumours, but confirming that development was still on track for its November 19 release.
Rumours began to circulate online over the weekend, claiming US retailer Best Buy was planning to open up GTA 6 pre-orders this week. When asked about the leak, Zelnick revealed that he wasn’t sure where they’d heard it start, clearly indicating that no decision had been made.
“It won’t be happening this week,” Zelnick confirmed to Schreier. “I don’t know where that came from.” Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be delayed any further, Zelnick confirmed.
GTA 6 Marketing Push Starts This Summer
Although pre-orders aren’t live at the moment, Zelnick did confirm that Rockstar’s full marketing blitz for GTA 6 will commence this summer. Rockstar has been rather silent about the game thus far despite fanfare clearly being at an all-time high.
In other news concerning GTA 6, Zelnick addressed some rumours stating that Rockstar could go digital-only at launch and release physical copies at a later date. Zelnick shut down that claim quickly, reaffirming what he said earlier this year that “that’ s not the plan.”
As for why there is no mention of a PC release for GTA 6 yet, Zelnick noted that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are being prioritized as their core customerbase for a launch game. He went on to say that consoles are still the “core” platform for games of this magnitude.
Rockstar has always been big on releasing their flagship titles for console before porting them over to PC. This includes GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Lastly, Zelnick dodged the question on what GTA 6’s final cost will be, but he did say that it all depends on what consumers feel they can get for the product.
