Grand Theft Auto 6 has been a long time coming, but even before it launches in November, it’s already making history. After just one week of pre-orders being live, Rockstar Games’ most-anticipated title has rocketed to the top of every region’s PlayStation Store sales rankings.
The biggest shock might not even be GTA 6’s massive sales though – it’s that most players are opting for the $100 Ultimate Edition over the game’s standard $80 price tag.
Rockstar hasn’t shared any sales numbers just yet, but these early rankings speak volumes about the demand for its next game. GTA 6 Ultimate Edition currently sits as the PlayStation Store’s bestselling PS5 game in a number of regions, from the US, UK, Canada, France, Japan, India, to South Korea. The standard edition also charts highly, but the premium version continues to take the number one spot.
It seems players are happy to pay an extra $20 up-front for Grand Theft Auto 6’s additional digital bonuses. Rockstar hasn’t fully listed everything included in the Ultimate Edition beyond the handful of bonuses it told us about previously, but so far that hasn’t deterred players from pre-ordering.
It’s unclear how Xbox sales compare, as Microsoft doesn’t make the same data publicly available, but Bloomberg recently said GTA 6 pre-orders on Xbox Series X|S are “record” setting as well.
Previous reports suggested PS sales were outselling Xbox three-to-one, but we still haven’t seen any official figures to confirm that.
Speaking of numbers, GTA 6’s premium pricing is another topic that’s attracted plenty of industry attention. Priced at $80 for the standard edition and $100 for ultimate, it’s one of the first blockbuster games we’ve seen crack the $70 launch price barrier. But again, pre-orders seem to indicate that players don’t mind.
