Update (June 22, 2023): Todd Howard has confirmed that Starfield does not have land vehicles. Howard said that a fully upgraded boost pack pretty much works as a vehicle, especially on low-gravity planets.
Original article: Bethesda have given us a ton of details about their sci-fi epic RPG Starfield in the recent 45-minute deep dive, which focused on the game's many mechanics like exploration, combat, skills, shipbuilding and much more.
However, one thing that is yet to be confirmed or showcased by Bethesda is land vehicles. We don't have an official confirmation of whether or not these are in the game, apart from the concept art above which includes what appears to be a land vehicle with big wheels specifically made for driving over that icy and snowy terrain.
Starfield director Todd Howard did say that there's still a lot of Starfield that we have not seen so there's still hope that Bethesda are hiding the land vehicles as a major surprise to be revealed closer to release.
However, our gut tells us that if land vehicles were in Starfield, we would have known about it by now. The Starfield Direct was a perfect opportunity to reveal such a feature, especially during the part where Howard talks about how you can walk or fast-travel back to your ship.
It certainly doesn't make a lot of sense to don't have land vehicles in such a futuristic setting, especially when we'll spend the majority of our time in Starfield exploring the huge planets across several star systems.
If Starfield ends up not having land vehicles, it will be really interesting to see how Bethesda explains that one for the game's lore. Hopefully, we'll hear more on land vehicles very soon as this seems to be one of the most requested features from the Starfield community.
Starfield officially launches on September 6, 2023, for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
