Second act of Baldur's Gate 3 will have you reeling for some light and here are the best ways to get it.

Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't put as much stock in light mechanics like Solasta for example but the second act of the game does feature them more prominently, along with an additional twist - the shadow curse.

This thing will damage you every turn and should one of your party members perish with the debuff on them, you are going to be in for a nasty surprise.

In order to prevent such things from happening, you will need protection and there are basically three layers of it that you can get - light sources, a Selunite's blessing and complete protection.

Light sources

These are quite easy to obtain and provide the minimal protection you require to survive some parts of the cursed lands. Simply have a torch in your inventory and toggle the light source on your hotbar to keep it up. Toggling the light source mid-fight will cost an Action so you might want to do it beforehand.

If you have a melee character wielding a torch, make sure they are equipped with a weapon that is not two-handed or versatile. They can't use those while the light source is on.

You can also use spells to provide lights or make a weapon glow so you don't have to swap it in order to avoid damage each turn.

Selunite's blessing

This is the better version of the light source protection. It is applied at all times and doesn't require light source toggling. To get the blessing, take the Harpers you meet up on their offer and visit the Last Light Inn. Talk to Jaheira and she will point you to the Selunite cleric, Isobel, on the upper floor.

Go there, speak to Isobel and she will give you the blessing. Some areas will remain out of your reach as the blessing can't keep you safe there. Also, do your best to protect her from that winged clown. Turn Undead works wonders.

Full protection

To get the final protection upgrade, you will need to get the aforementioned Selunite's blessing and talk with Jaheira about the plans to deal with Thorm. You will eventually get the prompt in the quest log to talk with Harpers who have a lead on how the Sharrans are moving freely in the cursed lands.

This quest will lead you to ambush a caravan but it is highly recommended you take a long rest first since the fight will be pretty tough. Kill the enemies, loot the big spider-like humanoid and you will finally get your hands on a lantern that provides protection from the curse. However, it is a light source which means you have to forego using your weapon while it's out and its radius is a bit restrictive.

You can keep using it as is but it is better to free Dolly Dolly Dolly the pixie that is trapped inside and ask her for a way to protect yourself. She will then give you a bell that basically keeps your entire party protected at all times, regardless of their position. This is easily the best option you can have around.
