Crafting a masterwork weapon sounds somewhat misleading but the final product is actually well worth the trouble.

Masterwork weapons are not exactly the same in Baldur's Gate 3 and in other D&D games on account of them being non-existent in this particular video game.

The game will still task you to craft one with a quest you stumble upon in a basement in the Blighted Village.

In the end, you will craft a +1 weapon that doesn't get an additional "Masterwork" bonus but it does make several boss fights a breeze.

How to finish the masterwork weapon in Baldur's Gate 3

After picking up the journal in blacksmith's basement, you will need to obtain a Sussur Tree Bark and a weapon to use it on. The choice is limited to a greatsword, dagger or sickle. You can find a pile of greatswords and daggers in the basement itself, just don't sell at least one of the type that you want to use in the final product.

After that, you will need to visit the Underdark and find the Sussur Tree. It is found on the western edge of the area where you will need to fight several Hooked Horrors and a deranged Drow.

Once you clear the area, climb the tree that stands over a precipice.

Follow the trunk until you reach the part of it where you can loot the bark.

Upon obtaining the bark, you need to return to Blighted Village and craft the weapon in the basement.

First click on the forge to start the fire and then click on the bellows to stoke the flames.

Click the furnace again to insert the Sussur bark in it. The flames will turn blue and then you can click it once more to insert the desired weapon.

The result will be a Sussur Greatsword, Dagger or Sickle, depending on what weapon you used. It will have the +1 enhancement and will silence anyone it hits. It is extremely useful in the fights against casters and hitting Balthazar with it preemptively will make the boss fight easier than the initial goblin skirmish at the Grove.
