Zaith'isk is more dangerous that the Githyanki might suspect and you can experience it first hand.

Baldur's Gate 3 will sometimes throw players into situations that could prove to be detrimental for continued adventuring, such as going to the Zaith'isk and failing the saving throws there.

Lae'zel will insist it is the best way to cure yourself of the tadpole infection but when you get to the device, a more sinister secret becomes unveiled.

You will have two options at that point - allow Lae'zel to get in or go yourself.

Zaith'isk saving throws

You will need to pass an Intelligence (DC 10), Wisdom (DC 12) and Constitution (DC 15) saving throw in order to get out of it unscathed. If you let Lae'zel go instead of you, the saving throws will be much harder with DC 30 not being an uncommon sight.

You will need to succeed all three saving throws to get a buff out of it. Failing even one will make the buff unobtainable and you will be stuck with reduced stats.

Zaith'isk buff

If you succeed the saving throws, your main character will gain the Awakened buff which will allow you to use Illithid powers with bonus actions instead of regular actions. This is perfect for the likes of Fighters and other classes that don't rely on bonus actions so much but it could be problematic for Monks.

Zaith'isk debuffs and how to clear them

If you fail any of the aforementioned saving throws, you will receive a permanent -2 debuff to the associated stat. It is no fun carrying the debuff around so you may want to save scum your way through the Zaith'isk. If you are already afflicted, the first big patch to the game introduced a way to remove the debuff by using tadpoles. Right-click them in your inventory and use the little buggers.
