Sony have been criticised for their lack of stronger support for backwards compatibility, especially for older, PlayStation 3 (PS3) titles but the latest rumours suggested the publisher could finally start bringing some PS3 hits to PlayStation 5 (PS5).
According to XboxEra's Nick Baker, Sony are working on bringing some "some selective PS3 games" to PlayStation 5 via emulation, not streaming as it has been the case so far with PS3 games on PS5.
Baker did not provide additional details but he speculates that the games that Sony could bring over to PS5 are probably their first-party hits.
When asked if this set of games would arrive with improvements like better frame rate and potentially higher resolution, similar to how Xbox improves older titles with auto HDR and FPS boost, Baker said he does not have the details on that.
I guess it remains to be seen if this is true or not but I would not be surprised to see such an initiative from Sony since players have been asking for more backwards compatibility games on PlayStation 5.
I'd personally love it if Sony could bring older God of War titles to PlayStation 5 with some improvements to resolution and frame rate. We've already seen that upscaling and ray-tracing can make these old games look like proper remasters and it would certainly be great if Sony put some effort into these potential new backwards compatibility titles.
