PlayStation will once again not participate in the biggest video game fair. For the fifth year in a row, we won't see anything from PlayStation at the German Gamescom, Sony confirmed.
Two months before the start of Gamescom event on August 21st, one thing is certain. Two of the three leading console manufacturers will not be in Cologne, this year’s Gamescom host.
Nintendo has already announced in April that it would be taking a break this year. Microsoft Xbox has not yet made a statement - but the market is expecting the US company to be at Gamescom. And lastly, Sony’s cancellation comes as no surprise, as the company's own PlayStation Studios have not yet announced any blockbusters for the coming months up.
Last year, the Gamescom fair was visited by more than 320 thousand people from about a hundred different countries. The fair did not return to the attendance it had before the COVID-19 pandemic, which was partly due to the absence of major publishers such as Sony and Nintendo. This year's Gamescom takes place from 21 to 25 August, again in Cologne.
The last time PlayStation appeared on a Gamescom event was five years ago and dates back to pre Covid time. That happened at Gamescom held in 2019 where Hideo Kojima presented the PS4 new game - Death Stranding and other very important games at the time: Final Fantasy VII and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare .
