Overwatch 2 is getting a barebones Lunar New Year for 2023 as the skins are few and far in between and the players have to pay for a third of them.
Lunar New Year 2023 has kicked off in Overwatch 2 but you would absolutely be forgiven if you didn't even know it was happening due to Blizzard failing to make the event memorable in any way.
There is the Capture the Flag game mode and its variations that either make a single flag spawn at the centre of the map or just paint the mode in competitive colours to let players earn Competitive Points.
And then there are the skins - a grand total of three of them, with only one being truly new.
Mei now has the Hu Tou Mai Mei skin which is locked behind $10 worth of in-game currency while Echo is getting Kkachi skin, which can hardly be called new but at least it can be unlocked through challenges instead of the wallet.
Additionally, players can get Masked Dancer Moira if they watch Twitch streams with enabled drops for six hours in total. They will also get a victory pose along the way.
The sad state of the Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year may not be apparent immediately but just take a moment to remember that these events once had nine new skins coming out alongside a pile of emotes, victory poses and voice lines.
What's more, three of these skins could be acquired through weekly challenges that didn't really require grind - only a reasonable amount of play time to get the wins.
