It's been a rough couple of days for Xbox fans, who first learned that Microsoft are shutting down a number of game studios across Bethesda and shortly after got stunned by a new controller announcement with a very insensitive headline that stated: "Feel the Burn".
Xbox are yet to put out the fire as Xbox fans are voicing their dissatisfaction across social media and even in Fallout 76, where one fan decided to nuke Phil Spencer's base.
But this too will be forgotten just like many other dark moments in Xbox's history and the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase is the perfect opportunity for Microsoft to win back the community.
And according to some insiders, Xbox will have quite the lineup of blockbuster titles like Gears 6, Call of Duty and State of Decay 3. The latest report from reliable Tom Warren adds a brand new Doom game to the list of big announcements we can expect to see at the showcase.
In his inside Xbox turmoil report that was published on The Verge, Warren states that Microsoft will be hopeful that some new announcements will help them turn the tide in their favour.
"Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the Doom around Xbox." Notice how Tom used the word doom but with capital D, which is a clear tease by the journalist.
At the moment, there is nothing official on the next Doom game. Neither Microsoft nor Bethesda announced anything related to the new installment in the franchise but we do know that Doom Year Zero was found in the leaked Bethesda roadmap.
However, keep in mind that the leaked files were quite outdated and some of the listed projects could be cancelled so the next Doom game might not be titled Year Zero.
Some rumours also suggested that ID Software are working on a new Quake game but it seems unlikely that the team would take two major projects on their own. Given that MachineGames teased a new Quake game in their Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, it's possible that these two FPS specialist studios teamed up for the next Quake.
But it does look like Doom will go out first as its expected to be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase.
