Riot Games has faced difficulties in balancing the top lane in League of Legends, with the preseason 12 changes being a notable attempt. One of the key adjustments made was to the teleport summoner's spell, which was split into two separate spells - teleport and unleashed teleport.
Teleport now has a longer cooldown and cannot be used to teleport to minions or wards. However, after 14 minutes, it transforms into unleashed teleport, which retains the pre-rework functionality of being able to teleport to structures, minions, and wards.
The community had mixed reactions to this change, with some players feeling that the nerf was too severe and rendered the top lane ineffective in the early game. Others believed that the nerf was warranted. Following these changes, there was a gradual shift in the game's meta towards the ADC role.
Teleport Changes
Riot Games has made significant changes to the teleport summoner spell in League of Legends, reducing the upgrade time from 14 minutes to 10 minutes. This means that champions in the top lane will now have access to the unleashed teleport much earlier, giving them the ability to roam and impact the game sooner.
Additionally, the upgrade is complemented by adjustments to turret and minion wave timings. After taking a tower plating, the tower will now gain bonus resistance for 20 seconds, while side minions will move faster after the first wave.
The buff to teleport is expected to have a significant impact on the game's meta, making top laners more influential in matches.
Despite the durability adjustments in mid-season 12 and the tank item changes in pre-season 2023, the top lane role in League of Legends remained weaker than it was previously.
However, Riot Truexy has announced some major modifications that will be implemented in the upcoming mid-season update. One of the key adjustments is related to the teleport summoner spell which will happen in the upcoming patch 13.10!
