League of Legends Mel rework changes her W ability in Patch 26.22
Mel's W ability (Rebuttal) will no longer reflect projectiles but will instead destroy them and provide defensive utility including shields and movement speed for herself and nearby allies

Key Points from the Article

  • The rework shifts Mel's power curve from early game to late game, with reduced early damage/stats but better scaling and increased ultimate cooldown reduction
  • Q ability will be slower with less initial damage but more second impact damage and cooldown refund when hitting enemies
  • E ability snare duration now scales with distance, rewarding longer-range snares with increased root time
  • Changes scheduled for patch 26.22 on November 4th, 2026, with projectile reflect removal aimed at improving game balance and team support capabilities
Mel's W ability (Rebuttal) will no longer reflect projectiles but will instead destroy them and provide defensive utility including shields and movement speed for herself and nearby allies

League of Legends Patch 26.22 will overhaul Mel's abilities, removing projectile reflection from her W while adding team shields and improving her scaling.

Mel will be getting a big ability rework in League of Legends patch 26.22. Riot plans to remove her projectile reflect mechanic and give her W a defensive utility effect along with other kit changes.

As we know currently Mel can reflect projectiles using her W called Rebuttal. She will now destroy projectiles and gain defensive utility effects around her and allies.

Mel should become stronger at supporting her team and have better scaling going forward. She will lose some of her power early in the game though.

When is the Mel Rework Coming?

Mel will get her ability rework on November 4th 2026 with patch 26.22 of League of Legends. Like with all patches changes can always be tweaked before hitting live servers.

Mel Will No Longer Reflect Projectiles With Her W

Mel's W currently reflects projectiles back at the enemy that threw it. She will be able to destroy projectiles and give herself defensive effects.

She will have the following effects:

  • Destroy enemy projectiles that hit her.
  • Do a small amount of damage to those that shoot at her.
  • Gain shields on herself and nearby allies.
  • Gain movement speed to allow her team to reposition.

So she will not be able to reflect Seraphines ult or Jhins Q skillshot anymore. She will instead be able to protect her team from projectiles that may threaten them.

More Mel Ability Changes in Patch 26.22

Here are some of the other changes Mel will receive. These will help shift her power curve away from the early game.

  • Passive/Base Stats - She will deal less passive damage and have less health/armour early. She will have better health and armour scaling.
  • Q - Mel's Q will move a bit slower and do less damage on the initial blast. It will do more damage on the second impact. If you hit at least one enemy with your Q you will gain a flat amount of cooldown.
  • E - Her snare will root enemies that are closer to her for less time. It will root enemies that are further away for more time. This will reward you if you can snare enemies from farther away.
  • R - Mel's ult will gain more cdr on each rank she reaches. Allowing her to cast it more as the game goes on.

These changes should allow her to utilize her abilities more precisely and scale into later game.

Why is Riot Removing Mel's Reflect?

Its all about balance. Having the ability to reflect projectiles can be annoying to deal with when someone uses it against you. Especially when they reflect your best ability back at you.

Riot will have to find a happy medium that satisfies mel players while keeping it fair to those playing against her. If they decided to put reflect on her ult that would have required more changes to her R.

So instead they decided to let her help out her allies by destroying projectiles around her. This will allow her to save teammates if they are in danger. You will just have to learn how to use her new w if you are a fan of reflecting projectiles.
