IO Interactive has released a dev vlog for 007 First Light, showcasing technical features exclusive to the PC platform, headlined by DLSS 4 support with multi-frame generation developed in partnership with Nvidia. It looks like the studio is working directly with the GPU manufacturer to implement the full suite of DLSS technologies.
Promotional footage displays frame rates reaching 240 FPS with DLSS enabled, though the studio has not disclosed the specific settings, resolution, or hardware configuration used to achieve these numbers. As with any promotional material, real-world performance will vary significantly based on graphics settings and system specifications.
Beyond upscaling technology, IO Interactive highlighted a new volumetric smoke system powering visual effects, including fog, explosions, and clouds. The developers claim this technology "has not been done anywhere before," suggesting a proprietary approach to volumetric rendering that could distinguish First Light's visual presentation from other games on the market. Easier said than done, though.
The vlog also confirmed IO Interactive has built new animation and AI systems specifically for 007 First Light. These changes aim to bring improvements the game's stealth mechanics and enemy behaviour, though the studio provided limited details on how these systems differ from the Glacier engine technology powering the Hitman trilogy.
Notably absent from this short video was any mention of ray tracing support, despite IO Interactive's website confirming the Glacier engine supports the technology. "With support for ray tracing, fully dynamic global illumination and new animation tech being developed for our upcoming projects, Glacier is only going to get better," the studio states on its official site.
The omission from the PC features vlog is peculiar given Hitman 3 featured ray-traced reflections and the engine's confirmed capabilities. The lack of emphasis suggests ray tracing implementation may still be undergoing optimisation, with IO Interactive potentially planning to showcase the feature in future marketing materials once performance is finalised. Gameplay footage shown previously displays lighting quality consistent with either ray tracing or exceptionally well-executed baked lighting solutions.
007 First Light PC system requirements
007 First Light is scheduled to launch May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, following a two-month delay announced earlier this month. The extra development time allows IO Interactive to address performance concerns visible in earlier trailers, particularly frame rate stability during action sequences.
