IO Interactive has delayed 007 First Light by two months, moving the release date from late March to May 27, 2026. The developer say this decision will give them additional time to polish and refine the James Bond experience to meet quality expectations at launch.
In a statement signed by CEO Hakan Abrak, IO Interactive described First Light as their "most ambitious project to date," promising breathtaking action, globe-trotting espionage, gadgets, car chases, and more.
The good news is that the game is fully playable from beginning to end, with the extra development time dedicated to delivering the strongest possible version.
The delay doesn't come as a complete surprise given recent trailer footage. While 007 First Light has consistently impressed visually with its cinematic presentation and authentic Bond atmosphere, performance issues were noticeable in gameplay reveals. Frame rate drops appeared particularly pronounced during action-heavy sequences, with the game struggling to maintain stability during intense combat and chase scenarios.
These technical hiccups stood out precisely because IO Interactive has built a reputation for exceptionally well-optimised titles. The Hitman trilogy runs smoothly across platforms with impressive visual fidelity, demonstrating the studio's technical competence. Given this track record, the decision to delay suggests IO is committed to matching that standard of polish for their Bond debut.
The studio emphasised confidence the delay positions First Light for long-term success, thanking fans for patience and continued support since the game's reveal. IO Interactive promised to share more updates about the project in early 2026 ahead of the May launch.
007 First Light will launch May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
