IO Interactive has revealed a story trailer for 007 First Light at PlayStation State of Play, showcasing Bond's recruitment into MI6, a globe-trotting adventure, and an ensemble cast including Lenny Kravitz as the rogue agent 009.

If there were any lingering doubts about whether IO Interactive could pull off a James Bond origin story, the new 007 First Light story trailer revealed at PlayStation State of Play should put them to rest. The footage is everything a Bond game should be - globe-trotting action, sharp suits, flirtation, rooftop shootouts in the rain, and enough adrenaline to make the May 27 release date feel very far away.

Bond origin story

The trailer establishes how the 00 programme is secretly revived, with Bond - played by Patrick Gibson - recruited into MI6 after catching the eye of M, portrayed by Priyanga Burford. This is Bond before the legend, still reckless and instinct-driven, constantly clashing with John Greenway (Lennie James), the by-the-book training instructor who becomes a reluctant ally.

The central tension between Bond's improvisational nature and the rigid structure of MI6 gives the story genuine dramatic weight. The action sequences are spectacular. Bond climbs cliff faces, fights through museums, shoots his way through rain-soaked backstreets, and navigates rooftop encounters across multiple continents.

A bit Unchartedish?

Comparisons to Uncharted are hard to avoid - the kinetic traversal and third-person combat feel distinctly Naughty Dog-influenced. The difference is 007 First Light's stealth systems and gadget-based approaches, which should provide the depth and variety that separates it from a straightforward action game.

The villain front is equally promising. Lenny Kravitz portrays Bawma, described as unpredictable, whilst the rogue agent 009 serves as the 00 programme's first major test. Bond's pursuit takes him from the Carpathian Mountains to the African black market of Aleph. It's safe to say that we'll have plenty of incredible locations to visit!

007 First Light launches May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Pre-orders include a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition with 24-hour early access.
