Far Cry 7 may offer considerably more than a traditional campaign, if the latest leak is accurate. According to leaker Rogue (@AgaiinTx), the next mainline Far Cry will include both a story campaign and a high-stakes PvPvE scavenge-and-extract survival mode, which could positioning it as a more ambitious package than previous entries (depending on how you look at things).
The claim expands on earlier leaks from the same source, so it's worth walking through what's being said, and how much weight to give it.
Campaign and extraction mode
The leaker stats that Far Cry 7 will havea a dual structure. Alongside the campaign sits an extraction mode built around a scavenge-and-extract survival loop, the kind of high-risk, high-reward format popularised by games like Escape From Tarkov, Arc Raiders, Hunt: Showdown and others.
Earlier reporting on the same leaks suggested this mode is set in a separate map, distinct from the main campaign, and designed as one of the key features of the game, not a secondary mode or something standalone.
If accurate, it would mark a notable change for the series which has been known for its single-player roots.
Time-limited campaign
On the story side, the leak lines up with what we known from earlier leaks. The plot reportedly centres on a wealthy family kidnapped by a conspiracy or cult-like group, currently referred to as the "Sons of Truth". Players would work through a story focused on rescuing up to six kidnapped family members.
The most divisive detail is a returning one: a time limit. Previous leaks pointed to a real-time clock mechanic, with this latest post referencing a limit of up to 72 hours. This could potentially result in non-linear story and high replaybility. I still remember a smiliar mechanic in Nosferatu: Wrath of Malachi, a horror title in which any member of your family could die or be saved, depending on your actions.
Obviously, since none of this officially confirmed, caution is essential here. While Ubisoft has said that new Far Cry games are in development, with one of them releasing before the end of March 2029, it has not detailed Far Cry 7's modes, setting or story. Everything specific in this leak remains unverified.
The source, Rogue, has been behind several earlier Far Cry 7 leaks and is described by some as a reliable Ubisoft insider, but things change during development and some of these features may not be in the final game.
For now, treat this as an intriguing but unconfirmed picture of what Far Cry 7 might be. It aligns with what we've heard about the game so far, but Ubisoft has yet to show its hand.
