XDefiant is a first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft San Francisco and published by Ubisoft. The game was officially announced by Ubisoft in July 2021. XDefiant's theme is based on different Ubisoft originals, such as Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs.
Termed as the "Call of Duty" killer, the game implemented everything players wanted from Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fiasco, including good movement and weapon mechanics. The game received widespread approval from the gaming community following its private and public play sessions across all platforms. After a long period of delay, the game is officially getting another server testing phase soon.
The Fate of Ubisoft's XDefiant
The game was termed a massive threat for future Call of Duty franchises. However, the game's release was halted all of a sudden. After an insider report by Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson on behind-the-scenes issues that were stopping the game from getting a complete release across all platforms surfaced online, the game's fate was in jeopardy.
However, the developer team at Ubisoft San Francisco have revealed that the game is currently going through an internal testing session. If everything gets a green light, the game could get a public testing session on April 19. While the testing session might run for approximately 12 hours, Tom Henderson suggested that it might run through the whole weekend.
If everything works out according to the expectations of the higher-ups at Ubisoft, then players can expect the announcement of the game's release date in the upcoming month. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. While the game was supposed to be available on previous-generation consoles, Ubisoft has decided not to make the game available for these platforms.
While the recent news might come as a light at the end of the tunnel, Tom suggested that the game's fate still remains shaky considering the issues involved with the game's initial development.
